ReCatalyst’s new board features four distinguished leaders with decades of combined experience in hydrogen innovation, materials science, and deep-tech commercialization:
Sam French is a highly accomplished Business Development Director with extensive expertise in hydrogen technologies. His career spans from fundamental academic research to applied R&D and commercial business development, with a strong track record of driving growth and building strategic partnerships for the past 20 years at Johnson Matthey. He has recently transitioned his role as a CTO of MorGen Energy.
John Butt, General Partner of Conduit Ventures, brings extensive expertise in sustainability- driven investments in low-carbon energy solutions, particularly Hydrogen. With a background in senior corporate finance roles at Citigroup Global Markets and PWC, John has strong strategic and international acumen.
Jerneja Lončar is a business advisor with extensive international experience and a robust network across the US, UK, EU, and Asia. Passionate about technology's role in innovation and sustainability, Jerneja has spent the last 20 years fostering successful collaborations between corporations and startups. Jerneja has held multiple managerial positions in the automotive industry, logistics, and financial services, among other she was the founding investment manager of General Motors Ventures.
Léopold Demiddeleer is an accomplished professional in R&D and innovation management directorship-level roles in the field of high-performance materials, catalysts, and hydrogen technologies. With over 30 years of industry experience and a latest professional post at Solvay as an Executive VP for New Business Development and Corporate Venturing, he also contributed to build bridges between European Research associations and centers.

ReCatalyst is developing a groundbreaking nanotechnology platform for producing advanced (electro)catalysts for fuel cells and water electrolysis, maximising the efficiency of platinum group metal use for decarbonisation of the energy and transport sectors with green hydrogen. It is a spin-out company from the National Institute of Chemistry (Ljubljana, Slovenia) founded in early 2021. The company holds a strong patented IP over flexible, customisable next-generation platinum-based catalyst solutions already proven in customer pilots across hydrogen technologies value chains.
Since inception, the company has received multiple awards such as the Slovenian Start-up-of-the-year 2023 and 2nd place at the EIT awards in the Venture section. The foundations of the start-up have been developed within the projects ERC ‘Proof of Concept’ StableCat and EIT Raw Materials Accelerator. In addition to the EIC Transition project ENABLER, the company has also successfully raised an oversubscribed Seed round of 1.7M EUR co-led by international investors HTGF, OCCIDENT and xista science ventures.
