Strengthening Europe’s Innovation Fabric
Following last year’s landmark visit from Ursula von der Leyen to ISTA, the xista ecosystem returned to Brussels — this time for a series of high-level meetings that reinforced xista´s growing role in Europe’s science-driven innovation landscape.
In conversations with EU leaders including Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva, ERC Director Laurence Moreau, EIC President Michiel Scheffer, EISMEA Acting Head Stéphane Ouaki, and Startup Task Force Head Andras Inotai, it was explored how ecosystems like xista — which seamlessly link frontier research, infrastructure, and capital — can serve as blueprints for Europe's deep-tech ambitions.
From the excellence of basic research at ISTA, to hands-on tech transfer via xista innovation, to startup-ready infrastructure at the xista science park (co-financed by EFRE), and long-term venture support through xista science ventures (with backing from the European Investment Fund) — the xista model is increasingly seen as a testbed for Europe's future innovation architecture.
xista science ventures has been officially welcomed into the EIC Trusted Investors Network (TIN) — a curated community of more than 100 leading European investors, VCs, public institutions, and corporate funds managing over €300 billion in assets.
As a TIN member, xista will co-invest in high-potential deep-tech startups supported by the EIC, exchange insights with fellow investors, and actively contribute to shaping the EU’s evolving investment strategies.
“This strengthens our mission to back science-based founders with not just capital, but long-term conviction and ecosystem depth,”— Alexander Schwartz, Managing Partner, xista science ventures. This milestone reflects a broader recognition: science ventures are no longer niche — they are central to Europe’s tech sovereignty and global competitiveness. We're proud that the xista ecosystem is helping lead this transition — grounded in science, built for scale, and deeply connected to Europe’s innovation agenda."

Delegation led by President Martin Hetzer with Georg Schneider, Barbara Abraham, Marie Kolmanova, and xista Managing Partner Markus Wanko, meeting EU Commissioner Ekaterina Zaharieva and Cabinet Expert Manuel Aleixo.
